Start with Niche Clarity to Get to 1000 Subscribers
Before diving into content creation, you need a crystal clear understanding of your niche. But here’s the key insight many creators miss: your niche isn’t just about *what* you create – it’s about *who* you serve.
Think about your niche as the space you create for specific people, not just topics. Ask yourself:
– Who are you trying to help with your content?
– What are they struggling with?
– What results are they trying to achieve?
– What’s their current mental and emotional state?
– What beliefs and thoughts drive their actions?
– Who is my audience beyond basic demographics?
– What are the specific topics they are searching for, struggling with, or curious about?
– How will I deliver my content (e.g., video podcast, talking to the camera, screen recordings, tutorials, b-roll, etc.)?
Remember, you don’t need perfect answers to all these questions right away. Your understanding of your audience will naturally evolve as you create more content and interact with viewers.
You need a clear understanding of who your niche is. Many people think of a niche as just the topics they cover or the industry they focus on. A better way to approach it is to see your niche as a group of people rather than just a subject. Your niche isn’t just about what you talk about—it’s about who you are helping. You’re not creating content just to discuss a topic. You’re creating it to serve and support the people interested in that topic. When you focus on the people rather than just the subject, you set yourself up for long-term success by building a loyal audience that connects with your message.
Your niche is the space you create for the people you’re trying to reach. It’s not just about a topic or industry—it’s about building a community. A community where your audience feels understood, supported, and engaged.

The 100 Topic Challenge
Want to test if you’ve chosen the right niche? Here’s a powerful exercise: try to brainstorm 100 different topic ideas for your channel. This might sound overwhelming, but there’s method to this madness!
If you get bored or run out of ideas before reaching 100, it might signal that this isn’t the right niche for you. Think about it – if you can’t get excited about listing topics, how will you maintain enthusiasm through the entire video creation process?
Remember, If you don’t know who your ideal viewers, clients, and customers are—if you haven’t defined your “who”—then how could you possibly know what to create content about? Because you don’t know what they’re searching for, you don’t know what they’re struggling with.
The reason I recommend making a list of 100 topics is simple: if you get bored partway through or run out of ideas, that’s a good sign that maybe this isn’t the niche for you. If you can’t think of 100 things that you’re excited to talk about, then how could you ever expect yourself to create 100 videos? Think about it – if you get bored creating a list of topics, imagine how quickly you’ll get bored doing all the work of figuring out titles, thumbnails, descriptions, scripting, recording, editing, and publishing. If you’re going to put the time and energy into creating videos, being excited about what you’re creating is key to your success.
Inside Video Brand Academy there’s a training on keyword hiding places. There are lots of places to find really good topics for your channel, and there’s a whole list inside of that bonus training.
Where to Find Topic Ideas:
– Look around your workspace or studio
– Check your email inbox for frequently asked questions
– Review your DMs and comments
– Examine the tools and equipment you use
– Consider the basic concepts in your field
The Golden Ticket Strategy
Not all topics are created equal. Some topics have thousands of people searching for them daily, while others might be concepts your audience doesn’t even know exist yet. When you’re starting out, focusing on searchable topics is crucial because you don’t have an established audience for the algorithm to work with.
This is where the power of keyword research and SEO comes into play. By identifying these “golden ticket” topics – the ones people are actively searching for – you can accelerate your channel’s growth significantly and to get to 1000 subscribers.
Keyword research and search engine optimization are the ways to turbocharge your growth. When you don’t already have an audience, the algorithm has no way of algorithm for you. The algorithm makes YouTube so powerful, but when you don’t already have an audience there, it’s almost impossible for the algorithm to do its thing for you. That’s why one those are the things that we’re going to go through step by step together in the 90 Days to 1K Boot Camp. Out of your 100 video topics, you have to know how to spot your golden ticket topics.
I like to call them golden ticket topics because it’s going to help your channel grow. They’re the topics that people are searching for.
The Spiderweb Strategy
To accelerate your growth to 1000 subscribers, you need to implement what I call the “spiderweb strategy.” This approach involves:
1. Identifying your golden ticket topics
2. Creating compelling titles and thumbnails
3. Developing binge-worthy content
4. Using strategic hooks to keep viewers engaged
5. Maintaining momentum with consistent weekly uploads
